World at War Compendium
We are huge fans of the World at War system by Lock ‘n Load Publishing. Well WaW fans better start warming up their wallets because LnL just announced that the World at War Compendium is now on pre-order. According to LnL, the Compendium will include, “over 100 pages jam-packed with World at War scenarios, analysis and articles…. Not to mention new maps and 88 new, die-cut counters. Better yet, there won’t be much of a wait. Almost all the material is ready; the World at War Compendium will ship before Christmas.”
Fans of LnL’s Line of Fire PDF magazine may be somewhat disappointed to learn that the 100 pages includes almost all of the WaW articles from LoF but there are still 30 pages of new material plus scenarios, card stock maps and die-cut counters. The Compendium will be available in a print version as well as a PDF download.
Note: The PDF version is now available for purchase.

Flames Of War Vietnam — The Battle for Ia Drang
Well Battlefront has certainly done something very different. In issue 266 of Wargames Illustrated they are including a complete set of rules to fight a Vietnam battle (the Battle of Ia Drang). Not content to leave it at that they have also produced a complete set of miniatures for the game including Huey helicopters, U.S. Airmobile troops, and North Vietnamese PVAN troops (plus decals and markers). The new WI site has a nice set of photos of the new miniatures and Design Notes.
This should make for a very interesting diversion for Flames of War fans. Now if only they’d get going on FoW Korean War!

New Flames of War Army Kit Bag

Well the blokes at Battlefront have been chatting with the gents over at Battlefoam and have devised a unique transport bag for Flames of War. The new bag, named the Army Kit Bag, is very similar to the Sabol Mark II bag but with even easier access and more pockets. The bag is in the Battlefoam green fabric with their normal rigid construction and looks very nice. What is really interesting is the unique foam included with it that is specially designed for your Flames of War figures. It holds six trays of foam. The bag will be available in December 2009. This could be a must get for FoW fans.
Battlefoam now has a video detailing the bag. It looks very nice indeed.

Heroes of the Blitzkreig — Review
Armchair General magazine has a nice review of Lock ‘N Load Games’ Heroes of the Blitzkrieg. HotB is the latest addition to LnL’s WW2 tactical combat board game system. The rules are the new V3.0 rules and it was the first game to include the new graphic design with small, super high gloss map panels.
The second edition of Band of Heroes is also available. It also includes the V3.0 rules and new map panels without the halo hexes.
Joe Steadman from The Dice Tower also has a video look at the game.

Klingon Armada — Now Available
Klingon Armada, the Star Trek expansion to Starmada, is now available. You can get it from ADB or MJ12. Klingon Armada uses the license from ADB and their Federation Commander/Star Fleet Battles universe for quick play Star Trek rules using the Starmada rules system. FC/SFB fans can finally fight larger fleet actions. The game is also ideal for use with the Starline 2400 miniatures. A printed version of the Starmada: Admiralty Edition rules is also available.
Hell’s Highway Coming Soon!
When Flames of War first came on the scene there were three things we could not wait to see: D-Day, Operation Market-Garden, and the Battle of the Bulge. Well we got D-Day and now the first Market-Garden book, Hell’s Highway, is almost ready. Battlefront recently posted their Hell’s Highway design notes. Still no word on the Bulge though….
Flames of War — News
Some interesting news from Battlefront on Flames of War.
Early War, what’s the plan?
As JP has previously mentioned work is underway, and we are aiming to release the three primary sourcebooks over the next 4 years. The first book will focus on the German invasion of Poland and France. The second book will cover the Africa campaign. The third book will cover the war in the east. Read the rest of this entry »
MBA 15mm Hedgerow Set — Review

The Miniature Building Authority recently released a new 15mm pre-painted Hedgerow set. The set comes with eight six-inch long hedgerow sections (so you get four feet of hedge in all). One hedgerow section has a breach, another a gate, and the rest are solid. The breach is not quite large enough to fit larger tanks, such as the German Panther, but a Sherman fits just fine. The gate is a small, closed wooden gate. Read the rest of this entry »
Space Hulk Now Available!
Well it turns out the Games Workshop ‘Mystery Box’ and ‘Space Hulk 2009′ rumors were one in the same. This is great news for Space Hulk fans. Unfortunately it is only a limited release so we will probably not see much support for it.
The game is shipping with a 23-page Rulebook, a 47-page Mission book and 35 plastic Citadel miniatures, including: 11 Space Marine Terminators, one Space Marine Terminator Librarian, 22 Genestealers, and one Broodlord. Also included of course are the cardboard corridor sections and misc counters. Read the rest of this entry »
Test of Battle: Operation Market-Garden — Review
Command Decision, Test of Battle: Operation Market-Garden is a campaign book for Test of Battle Games’ Test of Battle WW2 miniature rules system. The book is a softcover 8 1/2″ x 11″ format. The cover is heavy cardstock in full color. Operation Market-Garden is 54 black and white pages long.
The product is designed for use with the Test of Battle rules but can be easily adapted for almost any WW2 battalion level system. Unlike earlier expansions, such as Stars and Stripes Forever, Market-Garden is a campaign book not an army book and includes a short, seven page, introduction to the historical Market-Garden campaign. The rest of the book is dedicated to the included ten battles (scenarios) that cover the actions of Market-Garden. At the end of the book is a complete set of vehicle and weapon data charts for all included forces (these are also available as PDFs on the ToB site). Lastly is a short bibliography on Operation Market-Garden. Read the rest of this entry »
