Posted on Updated on

“The game designers at the Rackham studio are offering you the exclusivity to test new units for AT-43. Fortified support units, more commonly known as bunker units, are troops attached to bunkers. In position inside the fortifications, their support is precious to their company. Bunker units are partly or entirely composed from the content of an Attachment Box. The final bunker unit rules will be published in Operation Frostbite, a next supplement of the collection. Read the rest of this entry »

AT-43 — New Combat Drills

Posted on Updated on

Rackham released some new beta rules to try out in your next game.

“The game designers at the Rackham studio are offering you the exclusive opportunity to test the new combat drills for AT-43. These drills will be presented in the final version of Operation Frostbite, a future supplement for the range! Rendezvous on the official AT-43 forum to discuss these new rules and to share your battle reports.”

Combat Drill: “Eject!”
Heroes can spend 1 LP to activate the ejector seat of their armored fighting vehicle whenever it is destroyed. The hero is then placed wherever the player controlling him wants on the battlefield. The player places the dispersion template over the hero, rolls one die and moves the miniature 10 cm in the direction corresponding to the die. The hero is eliminated if this movement takes him outside of the boundaries of the battlefield or if he lands on an impassable obstacle.

Combat drill: “Fire at will!”
Once per round each hero can spend 1 LP to give, ,the “Fire at will!” combat drill to an infantry unit he leads and which will not move this round. The rate of attack of the unit´s ranged weapons is doubled until the end of the unit´s activation.

Addition to the cover rules: “Advancing behind an armored fighting vehicle”
Infantry can use the cover provided by armored fighting vehicles when the latter spearhead the offensive. In order to get a cover roll when behind an armored fighting vehicle, the unit must be given the “Take cover!” combat drill and be in contact with an armored fighting vehicle.

AT-43 — News

Posted on Updated on

UNA Shock TacArmRackham has been busy. They have announced a number of new items for AT-43. First off the Karmans get fleshed out pretty quickly this year with a large number of new units including the King Buggy and King Mammoth. The UNA get Shock Troopers and previously unseen Shock TacArms and hero Lieutenant G Epstone in open Death Dealer TacArm armor. Rackham is also releasing a new Firetoad unit. What makes this one unique is not only its new ‘winter’ camouflage paint scheme but it will now come with all weapon options in the box (but no cargo container).

Fire WaspPerhaps the most interesting news of all comes from Rackham’s version of Forgeworld, Fire Industries. They announced the new UNA Fire Wasp buggy. As with all FI products, the Fire Wasp will be an unpainted resin model. Interestingly, the previously announced Therian Golems are now absent from the FI pages.

Rackham released an image of a prototype model of the ‘Steel Giant‘ type three strider. Also seen are army dice in tins similar to what Battlefront has done for Flames of War. On the forums, Jean Bay announced a new campaign box set for AT-43 to be released in the next few months. “This Campaign will be a product boxed set, including scenery, few special miniatures, new gaming tiles, additional rulesbook which cover new tactics options, rules for playing these new miniatures in AT-43, rules for scenery, an optimization for using the existing attachment boxes in the game, rules campaign system, huge set of scenarios and lots more. ”

2008 is looking to be a good year for AT-43! Considering the release schedule for the Karmans, we will almost certainly see a new faction for AT-43 before year’s end.

AT-43 — The Red Blok

Posted on Updated on

Draganov KommandosOriginally we were not going to cover any Red Blok miniatures because we assumed it would mostly be more of the same as far as AT-43 miniatures went. Once you have seen some of the U.N.A. or Therian models you get the basic idea of the AT-43 line. But after seeing the full Red Blok line of minis for ourselves we had a change of heart.

While the Red Blok figures do not present any revolutionary or quantum shift in AT-43 quality they do present perhaps the first evolution. The Red Blok infantry are of a touch higher quality than the U.N.A or Therian figures. Perhaps it is just the color schemes but they do look better overall. Certainly the Draganov Commandos benefit from the lack of flesh, which has always been the poorest part of AT-43 figure painting. Also, while the Kolossus units are not as impressive, or futuristic, of a design as the U.N.A. TacArms they are impressively well molded models when you see them for yourself. Even the theme, whether you like it or not, is well executed and the models give the proper feel quite well. Read the rest of this entry »

AT-43 — The Big Guns

Posted on Updated on

Rackham has released some new units for AT-43. This round includes a number of heavy units. The Therians get the hero (special character) Tiamet. She is an impressive model and ships singly along with one resource generator and a single unit card. Tiamet is on a 65mm base and is very well sculpted and painted. Unlike Atis-Astarte, Tiamet is a very durable miniature and should hold up to regular play just fine. The size of the figure befits her armament of four Light Grim Scythe’s with 13 strength attacks each.

The U.N.A receive a couple new units. First is another batch of TacArms. This time it is the dual Volcano MG-equipped Death Dealer TacArms. The Death Dealers ship three to a box but unlike the other TacArms there are no option bodies; you get one leader per pack. You also get five cards, two unit cards (leader and troop) and three ‘Ace’ cards. I have no idea of what use are the Ace cards. The Death Dealers are perhaps the best U.N.A. figures yet. They come in a very well done urban camo of light and dark gray with various insignia. Unfortunately the official rules for them are very limiting but they look so good I suspect a lot of players will ignore the official rules and use them as they would other TacArms. AT-43 Therian Army Book — Review

Posted on Updated on

Therian Army BookThe AT-43 Therian Army Book is now available. The quality and layout is the same as the U.N.A. Army Book. The book is 64 pages long and printed on high gloss paper in full color.

The book includes 14 pages of information on history and the factory-worlds but the majority of the book is dedicated to the Therians and begins with information on a number of Therian factions; Cyphers, Warriors, and Web Striders. Each faction has their own benefits and disadvantages. For example, the Warriors excel at close combat and can get an alpha level overseer for free but must engage in close combat if possible. A few pages detail the heroes including Atis-Astarte, Sigma Urash, and Omega Tiamet. Details on the various Therian weapons are also included. Read the rest of this entry »

AT-43 — The First Heroes

Posted on

Atis-AstarteRackham has released the first hero figures for AT-43. The Therians get Atis-Astarte and the U.N.A. gets Sergeant A. Borz. Each figure ships singly in a small box. Atis-Astarte has one unit card and Sgt Borz gets two (one mounted in the Bad Dog Firetoad and one dismounted).

Atis-Astarte is well painted in typical Therian style and looks quite good, but her tippy-toe mounting is not very durable and she will certainly require pinning sooner rather than later. Sergeant A. Borz is well detailed but the casting, or perhaps the paint job, has lost a bit of the detail. He is painted with gray pants and a light bluish-gray shirt. Most disappointing is the poor painting of his face. I was hoping the hero figures would at least have a higher painting standard but unfortunately this not the case.

AT-43 — Grim Golems

Posted on Updated on

The Therians now have new close assault troops with the arrival of the new Grim Golem set. The Grim Golems ship six to a set with one leader figure, four troopers, and one Flamer figure. Three cards are included (two trooper, one Flamer). The figures are armed with two sets of Reaper Blades and are painted similar to the other Therian Golem figures. The faces are white but include a bit more wash and thus look better than some of the other white faced Therians. The Reaper Blades are soft and you will probably need to straighten many of them out but they still look good and should hold up to play just fine.
