AT-43 — News

Posted on Updated on

UNA Shock TacArmRackham has been busy. They have announced a number of new items for AT-43. First off the Karmans get fleshed out pretty quickly this year with a large number of new units including the King Buggy and King Mammoth. The UNA get Shock Troopers and previously unseen Shock TacArms and hero Lieutenant G Epstone in open Death Dealer TacArm armor. Rackham is also releasing a new Firetoad unit. What makes this one unique is not only its new ‘winter’ camouflage paint scheme but it will now come with all weapon options in the box (but no cargo container).

Fire WaspPerhaps the most interesting news of all comes from Rackham’s version of Forgeworld, Fire Industries. They announced the new UNA Fire Wasp buggy. As with all FI products, the Fire Wasp will be an unpainted resin model. Interestingly, the previously announced Therian Golems are now absent from the FI pages.

Rackham released an image of a prototype model of the ‘Steel Giant‘ type three strider. Also seen are army dice in tins similar to what Battlefront has done for Flames of War. On the forums, Jean Bay announced a new campaign box set for AT-43 to be released in the next few months. “This Campaign will be a product boxed set, including scenery, few special miniatures, new gaming tiles, additional rulesbook which cover new tactics options, rules for playing these new miniatures in AT-43, rules for scenery, an optimization for using the existing attachment boxes in the game, rules campaign system, huge set of scenarios and lots more. ”

2008 is looking to be a good year for AT-43! Considering the release schedule for the Karmans, we will almost certainly see a new faction for AT-43 before year’s end.

Jutland — Preview

Posted on Updated on

JutlandThe Wargamer has a short preview of Storm Eagle Studios’ upcoming Jutland game based off of their Distant Guns engine. In addition to the landmark battle, the game features scenarios that take place before and after Jutland as well as hypothetical scenarios. It even includes Zeppelins! This is looking like a must get game for all naval gamers.

Combat Commander — Update

Posted on Updated on

CC-ParatroopersGMT Games has released two new expansions for Combat Coommander: Europe. First is Combat Commander: Battle Pack #1: Paratroopers. Paratroopers is a small expansion that comes in a cardstock folio with two new 17″ x 22″ maps (giving four new maps) and 12 new scenarios. The scenario mix is excellent and will be familiar to any Band of Brothers fan. Paratroopers is an expansion and requires CC:Europe to play. We hope to see more of these battle packs. Highly recommended.

The second expansion, Combat Commander: Mediterranean, ships in the same sized box as the original and contains new counters, three decks of cards, six new map sheets (giving 12 new maps), new player-aide cards, and the latest version of the rulebook (with minor errata over the original). CC:M adds Britain and the Commonwealth; France and the Allied Minors; and Italy and the Axis Minors to the CC system. Oddly, considering its size, CC:M is not a standalone game and requires CC:E to play. Many of the new maps are certainly interesting and if you like the theater and new forces this is a nice expansion.

TAThe new AI terrain we mentioned earlier is now available for order. The new models include the Imperial Control Tower, large landing platform, small landing platform, and Imperial airbase accessories set (includes bunker, Hydra Flak emplacement, power generator, fuel drums, ammo crates and tool locker). See the Forge World AI Ground Defenses page for details and photos.

Perhaps more exciting is the new Tactica Aeronautica. It is a 128 page hard back supplement for Aeronautica Imperialis that includes new rules, aircraft, campaigns and tactics.

Warhammer 40K — Apocalypse Update II

Posted on Updated on

With Games Workshop’s new Warhammer 40,000 supplement, Apocalypse, now arriving to gamers, GW has posted a considerable amount of supporting material on its Website. First is a number of new Datasheets for Apocalypse including one for an Assassinorum Execution Force. There is also the Apocalypse Asset Cards.

In addition to the downloads there are a number of hobby and gaming articles as well. There are conversions for the Baneblade as well as a look at allied armies and the Vindicator Assembly Guide. They have a nice article on troop deployment in Apocalypse. Phil Kelly shows off his Tyranid force. No GW game would be complete without more information on Commissar Yarrick. Chaos players get official details on the Brass Scorpion conversion. Lastly, GW has tips on turning your normal army into an Apocalypse-sized mega army.

There is also more unofficial information out. Warseer has pictures of the Baneblade sprues as well as the new Space Marine Vindicator sprues. Once available, it looks like the Vindicator sprues will offer reasonably priced upgrade armor for Space Marine Rhinos.

Apocalypse looks to be a big WH40K release in more ways then one. Check often for new updates.

Warhammer 40K — Apocalypse Update

Posted on Updated on

A few weeks ago we announced the initial details on Games Workshop’s upcoming Warhammer 40K Apocalypse releases. Well full details are now available on the 2007 releases. In 2007 we will see the rulebook as well as supporting items such as the templates, a handful of new units such as the plastic Imperial Guard Baneblade and eight Laser Cannon-armed Terminus Pattern Land Raider, as well as a number of ‘splash’ only releases of large quantity unit-packs such as the Space Marine Suppression Force (two Whirlwinds and a Land Speeder), Emperor’s Fist Tank Company (ten Leman Russ tanks), and Tau Armored Interdiction Force (two Hammerheads and a Sky Ray) to name a few plus a handful of limited items such as the Big Gun Dice and Imperial Guard Backpack. There are also photos available of some of the rulebook pages.

Overall Apocalypse is looking to be a big release [pun intended] by Games Workshop and so far most of the items look good. Games Workshop is now accepting advanced orders on all of the Apocalypse items including the splash releases. If you want one of the splash items act quickly because they often sell out fast.

Games Workshop has Apocalypse details on their Website including an overview of the game as well as the new releases.

Aeronautica Imperialis — New Ork Releases

Posted on Updated on

Ork BomberForgeWorld just announced the release of the previously announced Ork Bomber. But they surprised us nonetheless! They did not release just one bomber but three different versions. There is a traditional bomber, an attack ship (Blasta Bomber 1), and a gunship (Blasta Bomber 2). The bombers seem to include a number of different build options including an open cockpit and gunners. And if all of that was not enough FW also released an Ork Bombs and Rokkits weapons pack. It is certainly a good day for Ork flyers.

See Signs and Portents Wargamer Issue 47 for more details including a battle report with the new rules. Read the rest of this entry »

Warhammer 40K — Apocalypse

Posted on Updated on

Well we are more than six months into the year and Games Workshop has finally announced something we care about. Of course we will not see any of it until October of 2007. GW is releasing Apocalypse for Warhammer 40K. Much of the information around the product is still rumor, but various bits of information have leaked that show it is a $50, 200+ page book. The book contains rules for large scale games (5,000+ points) of 40K as well as background, conversions, and lots of color. Apocalypse will be a big release and will also contain large (10″) blast, barrage, and flamer templates. It looks like GW has learned something from the large-format, Imperial Armor books from ForgeWorld.

There are a number of supporting releases planned including terrain and even a plastic Imperial Guard Baneblade [more pics on Warseer]. Most of the races will receive something new and there are a number of large package deals planned to make it easy to buy large quantities of units. Following it all up is a $22 Apocalypse Wargear book in December 2007. Perhaps most exciting are the new Ork units — Although, we will not see them until January 2008.

Coming out in the next few months is the new Chaos Space Marines Codex and a number of newly sculpted, and plastic, Chaos units including new Chaos Terminators that will finally bring the Chaos units up to the standards of the newer Space Marine miniatures. Chaos will also get some Apocalypse scale units, including the Brass Scorpion, in 2008. [updated: 31JUL07]

The Sabre Platforms and Ork Gunz are available for pre-order now but not the other items. [updated: 20JUL07]
