Planetary Empires Sneak Peek

The latest French edition of White Dwarf included an ad for the upcoming Warhammer 40,000 campaign system, Planetary Empires. The ad announces that the Planetary Empires box game will include 48 plastic hexes that are compatible with the Mighty Empires hexes. The hexes will also be available separately from GW in some form. You can combine the two games if you wish to form campaigns that span the ages. Also included are short, simple campaign rules designed by Jervis Johnson but they also encourage players to make up their own. The system is designed for use with Warhammer 40K as well as Epic.
From the included photo of the hexes it looks like players are going to want to buy Might Empires as well, or some of the hexes, if they want mountain, forest, or river hexes but this remains to be seen. Overall it should be an interesting product.
GW has released Strategy Cards for use with PE as well as a nice article on painting your tiles.

Federation Commander Briefing #2 — Review

Amarillo Design Bureau’s latest expansion for Federation Commander, Briefing #2, is very well timed considering the recent release of the new Star Trek movie. Briefing #2 takes Federation Commander back to the ‘Middle Years’. In the world of FC (and SFB) the Middle Years are the closest thing to the period of the original Star Trek series. Top Picks
Certainly one of the more frequent questions we hear is, “What is the best game in….” Well to help answer that we created a new page entitled Top Picks.
Here we have listed what we think are the best games available across a range of genres. We think all of these games provide exceptional play and are well worth your time and money. We will complete the list over the coming weeks and keep it updated as necessary. In general, it should remain relatively static as it should take some time for a new game to prove itself worthy for inclusion on the list. There will be exceptions of course but most of these games have proven solid year after year. Of course games go out of print all too frequently these days and we do not want a list full of great titles you cannot get either.
We all get excited by new stuff but it is sometimes useful to step back and revisit some of the classic titles, both old and new. Enjoy!
Even More New Cog Photos

There is a French site, figouz.net, that has loads of pictures of the upcoming Cogs for AT-43.
Also confirmed are at least two new army boxes for AT-43 to be released mid-year. One box is for the Cogs and the other for Red Blok. Both boxes contain everything you need to play 2,000 point games.
Rackham now has videos showing the contents of the two army boxes.
Note: These army boxes are now shipping.

The latest Forge World Openday saw the preview of upcoming Valkyrie and Vulture variant kits for the new GW plastic Valkyrie. Warseer has a number of photos of them and other new upcoming Ork (lots of Battle Wagon variants) and Chaos FW kits. The Valkyrie variant is a gunship called the Vendetta armed with what looks like six lascannons. The Vulture is a major variant with resin fuselage and wing bits to add to the main wings and tail booms of the new plastic kit. A new gatling gun type weapon, the Punisher Cannon, is posssibly included.
See more pics of the Vulture and Vendetta.
All in all some great looking stuff.

New AT-43 Images

Rackham released some new AT-43 images in Cry Havoc Online #2. First up is the new Cog Prowler. This is probably the Cog’s version of a size three Strider. There are a couple funny photos of a mass of the new Therian Storm arachn. The Storm arachn appears in Operation Frostbite. Lastly are two great photos of the upcoming Red Blok Dotch Yaga. It is good to finally see some new stuff coming out for AT-43 again.

Rackham later released an even better photo of the Dotch Yaga.

World at War: Blood and Bridges — Review

World at War: Blood and Bridges is Lock ‘N Load Publishing’s latest edition to its World at War platoon-level, Cold War era board wargame. It is very similar to the original release, Eisenbach Gap, in that it is a complete standalone game not an expansion. In fact the easiest way to describe Blood and Bridges is as a bigger, better Eisenbach Gap. Read the rest of this entry »
