Planetstrike — Review

Posted on Updated on

The blokes over at World’s End Radio have done a very nice review of GW’s latest Warhammer 40,000 expansion Planetstrike. It is in Episode #23 – Planet Killers starting at 39:20min into the show.

Like many of the recent reviews on the Web, they cover the basics of the Planetstrike book, but they also go into detail about army options and strategies as well as terrain effects, terrain building and use of strategems. Overall a great show for those thinking about Planetstrike as well as for those who already have it.

Theatre of War 2 — Review

Posted on Updated on

tow2_logoArmchair General magazine has a nice review of Battlefront’s  Theatre of War 2: Africa 1943. TOW2 is a WW2 tactical computer wargame.

Overall, Theatre of War 2 is just the sort of game tread-heads have been waiting for. Historically accurate and lovingly detailed, the easy-to-use interface is great for intermediate and advanced wargamers. Newer players may be put off by the brutal combat environment, but they will be rewarded by sticking with it. While the limited number of scenarios is disappointing, future expansions will hopefully fill the gaps. So if the sound of tanks on the move warms your heart, sign up for Theatre of War 2. The panzers await your command.

RAF: The Battle of Britain — Coming Soon

Posted on Updated on

RAF
RAF

Decision Games is redoing RAF, the classic solitaire game on the Battle of Britain from West End Games originally published more than two decades ago. RAF ‘deluxe’ is now three games in one. You can play solitaire as the British or the Germans or play it as a two-player game. The original RAF was probably one of the best solitaire games ever made. It used a card-based system that was easy to use and kept both the excitement and the challenge high. We are looking forward to this remake.

TGN Back on the Air…Again

tgn-logoTabletop Gaming News is back on the air. Battlefront is now hosting and sponsoring them. With luck this will be the last ‘going down’ message we see from TGN…or not.

New Plastic Hellhound Spotted!

Posted on

Bell of Lost Souls has pictures of the upcoming 40K, all-plastic, Imperial Guard Hellhound kit debuted at Gamesday Spain. It looks a bit like the Graia Pattern Forge World kit but, unlike some of GW’s newer releases, deviates from it considerably. It includes all three of the new Hellhound variants. Nice to have it in plastic but we wish they had done the Artemia Pattern instead.

Tabletop Gaming News for Sale

tgn-logoLooks like TGN is down for the count this time at least under Zac’s leadership. He has put the site up for sale.

It appears that the server that TGN currently resides on is suffering from a rather heavy load. This load isn’t due to the traffic on TGN which is normal for the month and my ISP appears to be uninterested in helping to solve the problem. Sadly I don’t have the tools or access to the tools that would allow me to solve the issue and despite my efforts over the last day or so I have been unable to rectify the issue. Incursion Now Available

incursion-logo

Well, here it is! Hop on over to the downloads page and download yourself a copy of Incursion!

It’s been a very long 14 months in the making. It took lots of really late nights and long weekends by a whole bunch of dedicated people to make this a reality. Most people on the team worked for free or for very reduced rates in order to just make it real. It has been brutal but it has been a labor of love. We all hope you enjoy yourselves with this game.

I can’t thank everyone who worked on this here but I would, in particular like to call out my friend Tammy (Tears of Envy) who was always there to prop me back up when I started to fall. Also, without the expertise of Andy and Wendy of West Wind Productions, this thing likely would not be…

So, we have at last reached the end…of the beginning!

Also see our APE Suit miniatures review and Incursion SNAFU review.

The Guerilla Miniature Games’s Blog has a nice piece on assembling the Incursion game pieces.

The printed box game is now available for a limited time. You can see the unboxed components.

Planetary Empires Sneak Peek

Planetary Empires Ad

The latest French edition of White Dwarf included an ad for the upcoming Warhammer 40,000 campaign system, Planetary Empires. The ad announces that the Planetary Empires box game will include 48 plastic hexes that are compatible with the Mighty Empires hexes. The hexes will also be available separately from GW in some form. You can combine the two games if you wish to form campaigns that span the ages. Also included are short, simple campaign rules designed by Jervis Johnson but they also encourage players to make up their own. The system is designed for use with Warhammer 40K as well as Epic.

From the included photo of the hexes it looks like players are going to want to buy Might Empires as well, or some of the hexes, if they want mountain, forest, or river hexes but this remains to be seen. Overall it should be an interesting product.

GW has released Strategy Cards for use with PE as well as a nice article on painting your tiles.
